Harry Potter fancy dress world record attempt

A Harry Potter fancy dress world record attempt will be taking place in Manchester, UK this weekend, as fans gather at the two-day Harry Potter fan convention Draigcon.

The event is taking over the popular venue The Printworks on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 July and – as well as the Guinness World Record attempt – will offer Q&As with the actors and crew, themed shows and live music.

The fancy dress stunt will see The Printworks attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the most number of people dressed as Harry Potter and will be taking place the night before the convention opens, on Friday July 20 from 5pm (tonight!).

People are welcome to join by dressing as Harry Potter and registering their attendance. In order to qualify, all participants must have glasses, a wand, a Hogwarts uniform and a fake scar on their forehead. Official costumes and dress-up accessories are available from Rubie’s UK.

The current record stands at 997, set by a school in Australia. The Printworks is hoping for 1,500 or more.

“We can’t wait to see everyone dressed up and getting involved to kick start the weekend of Harry Potter magic,” said Carl Whiteley, event organiser. “It would be fantastic if we could break a Guinness World Record – it’d be like winning the Quidditch World Cup!”

It is free to take part but people do need to sign up in advance.
