Best Sellers: The Mad Hatter Fancy Dress

The Mad Hatter Fancy Dress is a popular costume hire, fancy dress and novelty shop in a prime Somerset location. Owner Terri Burt shares some of the recent best sellers.

Costumes: Halloween lines from Palmer Agencies, Ghoulish Productions and Bristol Novelty

“For generic lines, the 60s, 80s and pirates are doing well, people started shopping early for Halloween. The most popular costumes for women are currently Morticia and Shadow Ghost, while men are buying cloaks and generic Halloween masks.”

Accessories: Peakey Blinder themed lines from Bristol Novelty and Smiffys

“For accessories we’re selling a lot of Peaky Blinder themed items, like hats, pocket watches, braces and (pretend) cut-throat razors!”

Children’s Costumes: Roald Dahl characters, pirates and police officers from Smiffys

“For Roald Dahl day we mostly dressed kids up as Willy Wonka, Fantastic Mr Fox and Oompa Lumpas all by Smiffys. Pirates are still big but there’s been new interest in police officer outfits, as presents for birthdays as well as dressing up occasions.”

Make-Up: Festival themes from Grimas and Tinsley Transfers

“We’ve also been selling a lot of make-up – mainly Grimas – for Carnival and various festivals which are still happening here. So not only general face-painting but festival glitter too. Tinsley Transfers also do well.”

Anything Else?: Novelty masks from Bristol Novelty

“We’ve been doing a good sale in masks this month. Still popular are the classic horses head and of course Donald Trump!”
