Party City Asks Customers To Pledge At Tills

Following its controversial commercial which aired across North America at the start of the year, Party City is now asking customers to donate to a Celiac awareness charity in a bid to make amends.

A post from BeyondCeliac.org read;

“This past January, Party City aired an insensitive commercial which poorly portrayed celiac disease and the gluten-free diet. After the celiac disease community erupted on social media, Party City acted quickly to discontinue the ad and to apologise.”

It continued, “The party goods retailer also took the extra step to learn more about celiac disease and made donations to support celiac disease research. Now, they’re taking it a step further during Celiac Awareness Month with a register donation drive, the first national campaign of its type to support celiac disease research. Those shopping at Party City in May will be asked if they’d like to donate $1, $3 or $5 at checkout to support the cause.”

Party City also pledged its own donation back in January to help fund research on celiac disease. The amount of that donation was not disclosed.
