“Most people are looking forward to 2020;” talking to Adnan Rasool

Andan Rasool, director of Splashes & Spills shares his thoughts on the last year in party and what’s in store for the rest of 2019.

How do you think the party industry has fared over the last 12 months?

“Retailers bought cautiously in 2018 but less so than 2017, which we expected.”

What was your business highlight of 2018 and why?

“Exceeding growth and continuing to develop our own personality. We endeavour to keep our partners happy; a notion born out of our experience as retailers. If there are any hiccups along the supply chain we roll up our sleeves and get things back on track.”

What are your hopes and expectations for the party market in general in 2019?

“Most people are looking forward to 2020 and 2021 when Halloween falls on a Saturday and Sunday respectively. But you must plant the seeds now for them to bear fruit. We are encouraging retailers to buy across our range instead of topping up on best sellers. This will give customers the confidence to shop with you again and again as you are keeping up with the trends.”

What would you choose as the best new party product of 2018 and why?

“UV Face paint sticks were a real breakthrough product. They are easier to use than traditional tube paints and are the special FX make-up equivalent to ‘fast fashion’.”

Can you reveal any of your plans for 2019?

“It will be our biggest year yet for new products including hair dyes, glitters and all kinds of boxsets.”

And finally…. can you sum up the current state of the party industry in three words?

“Fear kills growth.”
