The Party Shop sells off children’s costumes for £1

Popular Welsh town centre store, The Party Shop, has been selling off children’s costumes for just £1 as it prepared to close its doors for the final time, following a drop in trade over the last 12 months.

The shop, based in Mold, North Wales, is now closed and has sold off hundreds of children’s costumes at the vastly reduced rate as part of a special closing down deal which has been offered to schools and nurseries in the local area.

Katy Duplock took on The Party Shop on Mold High Street seven years ago after it had already been successfully trading for more than a decade, but has been forced to close the store following a drop in sales, which Katy attributes to the increasing pressure felt across the high street as a result of the rise of online shopping.

“We’ve had a lot of people coming in and they were sad to see it go,” said Katy. “They understood it was all to do with the internet. It’s been hectic and emotional because it has been more than a shop. It’s been like a big family.”

The special offer has been a huge success so far. “If the schools or nurseries buy 100 costumes they will get them for £1 each,” Katy explained. “We have made a lot of schools and nurseries smile! They are over the moon. We must have sold about a thousand costumes and we still have some to sell.”

Although the shop has now officially closed its doors, there is still some stock left to be sold. Katy can be contacted on +44 (0) 1352 756070.
