UK set to spend £823 million over Jubilee weekend

Moneysupermarket.com has predicted that Brits will spend an average of £83 each on food, drink and union flag inspired decorations over the four-day Bank Holiday weekend.

The figure is almost three quarters more than the £480 million that 34% of UK consumers said they planned to spend celebrating the royal wedding in 2018.

John Lewis has reported that searches for ‘jubilee’ on its website are up 55% week on week. In a sign that parties are now being organised, the retailer also said that searches for bunting are up by 31%.

Meanwhile, B&Q said it has sold 100,000 metres of bunting, while Sainsbury’s reported that sales of Union Jack cake stands were up by 2,783% week-on-week.

Over the four-day weekend, 1,458 public events and 1,775 street parties or private events have been officially registered to take place from 2 to 5 June.
