Tesco Left Red-Faced After Black Panther Mix-Up

Retail giant Tesco has said it is ‘extremely sorry’ after it was found to have labelled a child’s fancy dress costume as Dark Panther instead of Black Panther.

The Black Panther costume is from the latest superhero film in the Marvel Avengers Cinematic Universe and is smashing box office records across the board.

Tesco’s apology came after a number of Twitter users wondered why the costume worn by the eponymous character in the film had been mislabelled.

Some wondered whether the costume – labelled online as ‘Marvel Avengers Dark Panther Fancy Dress Costume’ – was a Tesco own brand version of the official dress-up line.

“This was a mistake and we are extremely sorry for any offence caused,” said a Tesco spokesperon. “We are correcting the description of this product on our website and are reviewing our processes to ensure this doesn’t happen again.”

Black Panther is the first ever superhero film with a predominantly black cast. The film has received widespread critical acclaim for its positive represention and diversity.
