Budget high-street chain Poundworld has issued a product recall for a child’s fancy dress outfit over fears the product does not meet fire safety standards.
The retail chain has recalled the fancy dress mask and gloves set just days before Halloween over safety fears, with a statement on its website saying that the ‘hair raising mask and hands’ should be returned straight away
The children’s ‘Hair Raising Mask and Hands’ dress-up set comes in two designs (ape or werewolf) and includes a furry mask and pair of gloves. Both have been on sale from early September and were removed from stores late last week when the business learned of the potential issue.
A Poundworld spokesperson said: “Product quality and customer safety is of paramount importance to us. As soon as we learnt about the potential issue, we took immediate action to withdraw them from sale. We’ve since carried out our own independent testing, which has highlighted that the products don’t fully meet the EN71 Toy Safety Standards. We have subsequently issued a full product recall.”
They added: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused and are currently investigating the issue with our supplier.”
A warning on the Trading Standards UK website reads: “Poundworld has identified a potential safety issue with the above products. Customer safety and satisfaction are of paramount importance to us therefore we have issued this product recall.”
Consumers are advised to stop using the product immediately and return the item to any Poundworld store for a full refund or exchange.
