Michigan balloon artist wins national award

Michigan balloon artist Carolynn Hayman won first place for her wearable balloon costume at the Twist & Shout Balloon Convention, which was held in Louisville Kentucky, from 5 – 9 February 2020.

Carolynn – who is the owner of Pop! Designs & Creations – has entered the national Twist & Shout Balloon Convention costume contest six times and taken first place for the last two years running.

The balloon costumes are judged on six categories: proportion and scale, use of colour, originality, details, visual appeal/appearance and wearability.

Carolynn received the award for her ‘Scooter Cargo’ costume, which featured a large lilac snail with a silver and gold shell, which even left a snail trail made of balloons down the runway.

“It means a lot,” she said. “I was up against some incredible costumes.”

“It’s a very friendly community,” added Carolynn. “Even though we’re all competing against each other, we’re all backstage having a great time and helping each other out.”
