It’s a family affair

Costumes for the whole family are becoming an increasingly common sight in the world of fancy dress, with consumer demand for this market growing. Amscan’s marketing executive Charlotte Cox explained what is on offer.

Family costumes are becoming a common site in the world fancy dress. Have you seen consumer demand for this market growing?

“Family themed dress up options have been growing in popularity in recent years and work particularly well for events such as Halloween or Christmas where families may host a party or go trick or treating together.”

Why do you think families are increasingly taking this group approach to dress-up?

“It adds an extra element of fun to any occasion and is the perfect opportunity to capture some exciting family photos to treasure and remember the occasion. This is also likely influenced by the rise of social media platforms such as Instagram.”

How many family collections do you offer and which styles are available?

“We have a great selection of matching child and adult costumes across everyday and seasonal collections. One of our most popular everyday themed family collections is the Prince of Thieves’ styles for boys and men, which perfectly matches the Robin Hoodie women’s style.”

Which of your family collections are you expecting to do well in the coming months/ what has done well over the summer?

“Our zombie offering was popular over Halloween, with family options including zombie convict, plus cheerleader and American football themed zombies. We also have some great humour-themed costumes which are available in both child and adult sizes including Goin’ Bananas, Hot Diggerty Dog and Penguin Pal, which all sell well.”
