“It has been amazing to see people giving balloon décor a go”

With balloons taking centre stage for many of the home-based celebrations which have been taking place over the past six months, Amscan’s education and training manager Jacob Megram is pleased to see consumers attempting to create their own DIY balloon décor.

“As social distancing has begun to relax, we have noticed a real appetite for people wanting to grasp hold of key moments in their lives and celebrate at home with their families,” he revealed. “Consumer appetite for all kinds of celebrations, particularly Halloween, is on the rise.”

“We are particularly surprised in the increase of DIY celebrations,” Jacob added. “It has been amazing to see people giving balloon décor a go; as a nation we really do have a ‘can do’, ‘give it a go’ attitude.”

Jacob expects to see these DIY efforts increasing as the Halloween season draws closer, with people using latex balloons to create bouquets, arches and organic garlands, while the classic skeletons, ghosts, pumpkins and spider foils are perfect for ‘balloon-in-a-box’ deliveries, well as more trend-led designs.

“Balloon-in-a-box orders have seen a huge growth over the last few months and this is not going to change any time soon,” he added. “Consumers are shipping balloons to family members they have been unable to visit, or have ordered them so they can celebrate in the comfort of their own home. Whether it is a simple SuperShape or a more extravagant bouquet, the possibilities for Halloween are endless!”

Mr Skelly
The Mr Skelly foil is a fresh take on a traditional theme.

The traditional Halloween colour scheme of orange, purple and black is expected to broaden out this year, with a number of new shades making an appearance, as Jacob explains.

“I have been watching Halloween developments across social media for the last couple of years and I am particularly excited to see the continued development of the alternative Halloween colourways. I believe there will be an increased use of pastel hues during this year’s celebrations, moving on from its darker routes, brightening the season and bringing smiles to people’s faces alongside their screams! Our Iridescent Ghost, and Fun Halloween Icons, match this trend perfectly. I cannot wait to see how all our incredibly creative customers will use them!”
