HCA poll unveils what US consumers are planning for Halloween 2023

The Halloween and Costume Association (HCA) has commissioned a national online survey of over 1,600 US adults who celebrate Halloween.

The results show that two thirds of Americans who celebrate Halloween, said their plans will be haunted by rising costs. Inflation is casting a shadow over celebrations, leading 36% to say they will spend less for Halloween this year, compared to last.

When it comes to making Halloween costume decisions, 42% of those who celebrate say price is impacting their choice most this year.

The Halloween industry experienced a record setting year in 2022, with sales reaching $10.6 billion. However the survey results indicate that the impact of inflation and budget constraints could potentially affect industry sales for 2023.

While there is still enthusiasm for Halloween among celebrants (34% are more excited for Halloween than last year, and 50% have the same excitement), there may be an adjustment in consumer spending patterns.
