This year’s Halloween was generally considered to be a success, thanks to the mid-week date spreading the celebrations across two weekends. Emma Angel, director of Angels Fancy Dress, shares her take on the spooky season.
“Halloween exceeded our expectations. We didn’t know what to expect, but the last two October weekends were the busiest days we have had in a long time, which was a nice surprise. The website did better than the shops though, which proves that customers habits are changing more towards the online shopping.
We didn’t see any clear trends. Customers were buying different costumes, even non-Halloween ones – for example a banana outfit made it into the top five! The most popular costumes were inspired by movies, with generic ones such as pirates, nuns and the Day of the Dead all making an appearance in the top ten.
InCharacter’s Baby Bat Costume was a great success (number four in the top sellers) which shows customers are still happy to pay for higher quality children costumes rather than buying cheap online or in the supermarkets.
The majority of other retailers are also positive and had a good Halloween. It is a great sign for the next year when Halloween falls on Saturday – fingers crossed it will be a big one!”
