The popularity of gender reveal parties in the US has grown by at least 16% in recent years and, according to recent research by Party & Halloween Retailer magazine, is likely to continue to grow in the future.
According to Google Trends – one of the best places to spot rising trends – there was no interest in gender reveal parties before June 2010. The craze began to feature in the search engine’s index that summer, before really taking off in February 2011. Interest has grown steadily since then and is showing no signs of slowing down.
In Party & Halloween Retailer’s recent online survey, 45% of respondents said gender-reveal sales had grown by at least 16% over the past year, while 21% said they had seen more than a 30% increase.
More than half of the survey respondents said their top-selling category was balloons, followed by decorations and partyware (in that order).
The article also covered a number of gender reveal trends for those looking to differentiate themselves from the pink/blue crowd. These include ‘guns or glitter’, ‘lashes or ‘staches’ and ‘mermaid or matey’.
