Gen Z shuns Christmas parties

Nine out of 10 Gen Z employees say they would prefer a bonus to festive fun, according to new research.

Recruitment and employment company, CareerWallet, has recently published a workplace survey, which showed that 91% of under 35s would rather their employer used the budget for a Christmas party on staff bonuses instead.

The survey also showed that even in normal economic climates, the Christmas party is perceived negatively, with 10% admitting it was one of the things they disliked most about their job.

Craig Bines, ceo of The CareerWallet Group, commented: “Our new workplace survey highlights how many employees are struggling financially at the moment as rising bills and inflation start to bite. For many businesses ‘rewarding’ staff with a Christmas party this year may not be as well received as expected with many focussed on increasing their salaries as much as possible to cover costs.”
