Feeling The Love

The annual celebration of all things romantic is taking place next week, offering the perfect opportunity for party and costume shops to showcase the power of balloons, decor and other heart-shaped product. If you’re in the market for some last-minute stock, here’s our pick of the best…

Despite over 80% of the public claiming that Valentine’s Day has become too commercial, the UK spends over £980m on gifts, cards, flowers, balloons and other romantic essentials, according to GlobalData’s figures from 2016.

The year-on-year increase in overall spend (0.7% or £15m) is a positive sign for retailers who cater for the occasion, with people across the UK spending just under £50 on their loved ones, on average.

“The key to Valentine’s Day sales success is choice, ” says Julie Dommett, Pioneer Europe’s head of marketing. “Having stocks of cute, funny and classic options to suit all different tastes will definitely help sales.”

“Valentine’s Day is a key seasonal event for balloons,” agrees Amscan’s marketing manager Charlotte Cox. “They make a fantastic surprise gift. We’ve noticed popular party trends such as unicorns and rose gold transition into valentine-themed products for 2018.”
