Fancy dress blamed for hen and stag losses of £206m

Fancy dress outfits and costumes have been blamed for over £206m going missing during hen and stag parties, claims recent research.

A survey of 2,000 Brits by money app Pingit found that while the average stag or hen do ‘kitty’ is an impressive £928, people are reluctant to be left holding the communal money in case it goes missing.

A third of those surveyed have lost group funds on a night out, while another 35% have had the money stolen, equating to about £206m of lost cash in 2018 alone.

With men contributing an average of £104 and women putting £68 into the pot, almost three quarters (73%) hate looking after the central pot of cash.

With fancy dress and accessories as the central theme for many stags and hens, dressing up was identified as being the most detrimental factor in keeping the kitty safe, with 38% of respondents blaming the design of their costumes.

The problems were identified as being a lack of pockets, shallow pockets or simply nowhere to keep the money secure.
