Escapade closes down after 36 years

Legendary Camden-based fancy dress shop Escapade has called in the administrators and closed down after 36 years in business.

Escapade, one of London’s best-known fancy dress and party accessories retailers, has appointed Lloyd Hinton and Anthony Hyams of Insolve Plus to act as joint administrators after the business became unsalvageable.

A message went live on Escapade’s website on Wednesday 6 November, letting potential customers know that the shop, based on Chalk Farm Road, had ceased trading.

“Escapade has been a major name at retail for many years, both through the fantastic shop in Camden and through its online presence,” commented Chris Isitt, vice president, EMEA & Australia, Rubie’s UK. “I’m sorry for Pendra and all those associated with the business to hear this sad news.”

Up to 24 employees have been told they face redundancy.
