Brits to cut back on Halloween spending

Research by Vypr has shown that the cost-of-living crisis is affecting how UK consumers plan to celebrate Halloween this year.

The study showed that only 35% of shoppers feel they can afford Halloween expenses this year, while 20% are planning to cut back significantly, 34% plan to spend around the same and 16% expect to spend more than in previous years.

45% of consumers are planning to buy decorations, while 59% plan to spend on sweets for trick-or-treaters.

However 54% of parents said they wouldn’t buy costumes for their children and 60% won’t buy adult costumes.

Ben Davies, founder of Vypr, said: “Retailers which have extensive ranges of costumes and Halloween decorations this year could end up with considerable surplus stock due to the continuing nervousness of consumers to spend.”
