Balloon Market Buzz: The state of the industry

In the most recent instalment of Balloon Market Buzz, Greg Brown spoke to Mike Hurst CBA, of Reds Balloon and Parties, about the current state of the balloon industry.

Getting the vlog off to positive start, Mike was keen to emphasise that Reds has never been busier.

“We’re pushing a lot of balloons out of the door, which is what we want to do,” he said. “Most people come in for a single foil but we can always upsell that to other things.”

Mike estimates that around 8 out of every ten customers go away with bigger orders than they had intended to place, highlighting the importance of upselling.

The pair then go on to discuss some of the best ways to upsell from a single birthday balloon and namecheck the Northstar mini number displays as a great way of getting consumers excited about the purchase.

“As soon as they see one of those they are normally sold instantly,” Mike continued. “I normally have two or three on display in various points around the shop, so they’re always in eyeshot.”

The conversation also covered balloon releases, how to explain your position and alternatives to offer customers.

Take a look for yourself – and let us (and Greg!) know what you think.
