Fancy dress is banned at World Darts Championship

In another blow for the fancy dress and costume industry, dress-up is banned at this year’s World Darts Championship, which – following the UK’s Tier 2 guidelines – will be allowing 1,000 fans to watch the event live at London’s Alexandra Palace.

Fancy dress has become a welcome tradition at the annual event in recent years, with fans going all-out to plan their costumes in advance as they make the most of their increasingly attention-grabbing outfits.

This years ruling means that the event will be missing the more colourful scenes seen at past championships as part of a compromise which will see the championship take place with fans in a more family-friendly environment. Singing or ‘football-style’ chanting has also been banned.

As such, superheroes, Smurfs and Christmas trees – all of which were seen at last year’s tournament – will be missing when the action gets underway on 15 December, 2020. Christmas jumpers are allowed.
