Festival Focus: “It’s all about the selfie zone…”

With the festival and summer event season now well underway, Sergio Palmer, marketing director for Palmer Agencies, shares with us some of his top festival picks for 2019.

How would you best sum up the public’s attitude to festival fancy dress?

“Comedy, novelty, FUN (all in capitals!) and generally standing out from the crowd is the main raison d’etre of festival attire. Colourful clothes, neon shades, animals, animal prints – zebra, leopard, etc. These are just some of the most popular styles we see in the very wide-ranging festival circuit.”

What are festival-goers gravitating towards for this year? Has the market changed much?

“We know the market is moving from costumes to accessories, with great attention paid to the head and shoulders area (the ‘selfie zone’). So eyemasks, bright wigs, hats, wings, and bright and pastel make up are certainly very popular. Costumes work well, but are better as part of a group, as a coordinated effort.”

What’s the most popular festival costume or accessory on the market at the moment?

“Our XL Cowboy foam hat is surely a very popular stand out product, light to wear and unique in its design, while our Blondie wig is also the focus of attention and compliments wherever it goes. This 80s cassette handbag is a quality retro look product that is a great festival accessory, helping anyone in 80s fancy dress keep their belongings (and phone!) handy.”
