Five minutes with: Sergio Battaner, Palmer Agencies

Hola Sergio! How are things at Palmer HQ?

Busy! It’s a busy but calm period, though we’re getting orders every day. On the other hand I don’t think the market at the moment is busy. We are doing lots of planning, but I don’t think that retailers would say they’re rushed off their feet right now. I’m hoping the royal wedding may kick things off, plus the football tournament – those should do something to spruce up the atmosphere and create some pizzaz.

You have been publicising a new catalogue – how much new product can retailers expect to find in there?

We have over 300 new lines that have been carefully selected with customer feedback and input in mind, and with a good knowledge of the trends coming into the market. Expect to be overwhelmed with ‘new’ stickers on a lot of pages.

And how do retailers get a copy?

The best way is to give us a call! We accept telephone, fax, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, email, or telegram. Actually I am a big fan of old-fashioned telegrams.

We’re now in April, and we’re not sure what season that is these days – weather wise at least. From a party point of view, what season is it?

It’s a good question. In April you get a bit of St. George stuff going on, but frankly it’s a bit poor. St. Andrew gets a bit more attention in Scotland, and it is also the season of getting ready for stag and hen dos. I see them starting from the first bank holiday weekend in May, until the end of September. Plus – Hawaiian season for barbecues and house parties etc. And the football tournament too. We could be heading somewhere busy, you know.

You’ve mentioned stag parties so let’s delve further – what was the most memorable stag party you have attended?

Oh, ha, ha ha ha. I’ve been to so many. The most civilised was when we went to the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, followed by a Michelin star dinner. The least civilised happened in Latvia. As we say in my rugby club, ‘what goes on tour stays on tour’, but I would advise to always take an additional set of clothes – plan for an extra day that you may not expect…

Thanks Sergio!
