Balloon Art Makes It Way To Dubai

The not-to-be-missed work of celebrated balloon artist Jason Hackenwerth has made its way to Dubai as a sculpture made out of 20,000 balloons can now be seen in The Dubai Mall.

Jason’s latest sculpture spins in place, which is even more impressive when it is around 18 metres tall and weighs 30 kilograms. The red, orange and yellow work hangs across three storeys of the mall and took the team just over a week to build.

The finished piece should be in place until the end of February, as the balloons are expected to start to deflate after about 60 days. Jason says the sculpture is designed to last for 90 days, after which it will be popped and disposed of.

“There are a lot of people who are very afraid of art, and this is sort of a gateway,” he says, explaining why he chooses to work with balloon. “It’s accessible. People won’t put their guard up, because, even if it’s something strange, there’s something recognisable about balloons.”

The Dubai Mall sculpture is called Skyward and is an “expression of our urgent dreams to be ever more grand in our endeavours”, he explains.
