Yvonne’s Fancy Dress Reveals Halloween Trends

Party and costume retailer Yvonne’s Fancy Dress, based in Dundee, has revealed how Halloween is shaping up as we draw closer to the main event.

According to owner David Farry, this year’s hottest outfits and accessories include killer clowns, cool prosthetics, Harley Quinn and Donald Trump.

“Halloween is getting bigger and bigger every year and it is starting to get crazy,” says David. “Everyone leaves everything to the last minute but they really want to look good. Kids especially want their costumes to look good.”

He continues: “Sales have been really good this year, we’re feeling very positive. I know it’s a Tuesday so it should be a bit quieter, but that’s not what we’re seeing at all!”

Last night (Thursday 26 October) saw the store’s ‘student lockdown’ take place – a late-night shopping event which offers a 20% discount to the local student population.

“This is the biggest day of the year for us,” David explains. “We have security for it as there are always way too many people – we are a very busy student town. It’s stressful but it’s good fun!”

As to what’s popular, it’s no surprise that clowns are proving popular once again, thanks to the success of the recent remake of Stephen King’s hugely popular IT.

David reports that Pennywise the clown is a popular choice for children, despite the film being rated 15. “They shouldn’t have seen the movie but they all want to be him!” he says. Meanwhile, ‘all the little girls want to be Harley Quinn.’

Face paints, special effects make-up and prosthetics have all been strong sellers, while the shop has also completely sold out of Donald Trump outfits. “There were costumes, masks and wigs — the wigs sold really well!”
