Fancy Dress Hits The Bullseye

Fancy dress is hitting the mark once again as British fans dress up to enjoy the darts World Championships at London’s Alexandra Palace.

Fancy dress has become something of a tradition at the annual event, with fans planning their costumes well in advance.

Despite the festive time of year, it’s not all Santa suits and Christmas jumpers. This year’s noble efforts have included a gang of Mexicans, Super Mario characters, a group of convicts, Star Wars tributes, novelty bottles of beer and, perhaps unsurprisingly, human-sized darts boards.

The costumes always attract plenty of attention in the press, but this year there was one particularly controversial costume which stole the headlines.

Bookmaker Star Sports retweeted an image of a man who had dressed up as Diane Abbott, complete with blackface make-up. The picture sparked a huge backlash on social media and the bookmakers eventually apologised for causing offence.
