Thousands of marathon runners defied warnings from the race organisers as they took to the London streets wearing all manner of creative costumes in what turned out to be the hottest London marathon on record.
More than 40,000 people took part in the race on Sunday 23 April, which – at 24.1C – was the hottest ever on record, many of them in costume.
The temperature wasn’t the only record broken though, with more than 98 participants attempting to break 90 records on the day itself (most involving fancy dress).
An impressive 34 people managed to battle through the heat to break their Guinness World Record, with titles including the fastest marathon in a two-person costume, fastest marathon dressed as an emoji, fastest marathon dressed as a film character and the fastest marathon dressed as an insect.
While many costumes are home-made and others are specially made for the event, plenty of runners chose to wear costumes and accessories from some of our favourite suppliers.
Runners in the 2018 Virgin Money London Marathon have raised more than £45m for charity so far, with more donations expected.
