Dress-up has been making its mark on the UK public over the past few weeks, with a recent BBC report on the rise of fancy dress video meetings showing home workers attempts to lift lockdown spirits.
Over the last few Fridays, home workers across England have been livening up online team meetings by dressing up as everything from penguins and pirates to zebras and smurfs,
The hope is that #FancyDressFriday (as promoted recently by Bristol Novelty) video conferencing will become a regular thing and help to boost staff morale over the coming months.
Members of Dragon CoWorking, based in Kent, spoke to the BBC about their dress-up meetings, which have so far included a giraffe and a gorilla.
“It gives members a chance to drop in and say hi and keep our community spirit going,” said founder Roland Stanley, who also said that he expected the event to continue.
Elsewhere, the monthly senior management meeting at Complete IT was attended by a mad scientist, Batwoman and Toy Story’s Woody.
A spokeswoman said: “If people are not doing fancy dress meetings already, they should, I think some big corporates can be a little reluctant but as a company we are always ready to have a laugh.”
In London, the fancy dress theme at a meeting of Connect Heath was not planned but, according to south regional manager Dionne McAffrey, everyone was very quick to join in.
“While the hard work continues, meetings such as these should not be underestimated for their ability to raise spirits during an undoubtedly difficult time for all,” she stated.
