Robert Boland, ceo of Boland, has been interviewed by Rijnmond NL, a Dutch media company, offering a look behind the scenes of his life and business.
Having taken over at the helm of Boland from his father and his business partner at the age of 26, Robert has remained largely invisible, but has grown the business over almost 30 years to an annual turnover of €37 million.
Boland moved to larger premises in Bleiswijk around three years ago, and continues to expand. During the tour of the HQ, Robert explained: “Indeed, about 80% of the shelves are already in use.”
Robert talks in the interview about the importance of relationships with his team, and how he enjoys a Halloween party with them each year, as well as taking them on a trip every five years.
Often visiting customers and factories around the world, Robert also enjoys attending VIP concerts and sports matches. He finds the travel helps to create ideas for the business, saying: “A lot of people are either creative or business people. I am a pacesetter and always full of ideas, but pair that with a business instinct. I am sure I will come back from Mexico with business-friendly products.”
Looking ahead for the future of Boland, Robert said: “The goal is not to be the biggest player in the market. We do want to be the best and most fun in what we do. With ordinary standards and values, taking good care of customers and producers and occasionally giving someone else something. I firmly believe that success will then keep coming to you automatically.”
