May 4th fundraising dress-up day launches at Rubies

The event saw employees of Rubies across EMEA dress up as their favourite Star Wars characters from Jedis to Sith Lords, and Jawas to Wookies.

The initiative was devised to not only make the most of what is known as ‘Star Wars Day’, by having everyone dress up in costumes of the galaxy, but also to fundraise for a good cause. Rubies chose Play Action International as its charity to donate to, as it aligns with the company’s core values.

Play Action International enriches lives through play. The organisation creates opportunities for disadvantaged children to learn and develop through their innovative play-based programmes, which have a huge impact on the children and communities involved. The team is also helping child refugees from the recent Ukrainian conflict, by compiling play boxes designed to help children process trauma and rediscover themselves.

Fran Hales, head of content and digital at Rubies, said: “We’d like to thanks every one of our team members for celebrating May the 4th in an out-of-this-world way, and also for donating to a good cause. Thanks to our dress-up day, Play Action International now have essential funding to continue with their journey to help disadvantaged children develop and learn. What better way to celebrate one of our favourite days of the year and bring our team members together than by helping others?”

Murielle Maupoint, ceo, Play Action International, added: “We’re absolutely thrilled to have the Rubies team raise funds for our work with their dress-up day. Dressing up is such fun. It captures the essence, freedom and playfulness that is so important for a child’s development. Yet many children around the world don’t have the opportunity to play or dress up.

“This is why the Rubies Star Wars day is important – not only will it be lots of fun, it will aslo raise hugely valuable funds for us to continue to change that reality for vulnerable children. Thank you Rubies and May the Fourth be with you all.”
