US retailers cite strong party supplies sales

As retail returns to normal, US consumers are making the most of restrictions being lifted by stocking up on party supplies, say retailers.

Walmart recently posted its Q2 results, with better than expected sales of $141.05 billion compared to a $137.17 billion expectation. The retailer’s chief financial officer, Brett Biggs, told CNBC that customers flocked to stores for items like party supplies, luggage and apparel as they were ‘coming out of hibernation’.

Meanwhile, rival Target recently launched its Halloween offering in its ‘hide and eek boutique’, reporting that a number of the lines have already sold out soon after launch in August.

The positive news follows last week’s report that US home retailer, Home Depot had sold out of its early Halloween drop almost immediately.
