Since its launch in 1988, Red Nose Day has become a much anticipated date in the calendar. It’s the day when people across the country join forces to raise money for brilliant causes in the UK and around the world.
The event’s donations help tackle important issues including homelessness, hunger, domestic abuse and mental health stigma, all of which have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Red Nose Day has taken on a Superhero theme for the 2021 event, taking place today – Friday 19 March. A spokesman for Red Nose Day said: “Red Nose Day is back on Friday, March 19, and this year it’s never felt more important to have some fun and raise money to support people living incredibly tough lives. We need the power of funny to turn laughs into lasting change. So whatever you can do, please join us.”
Confirming a spike in superhero costume sales was Amscan International‘s category manager Sam Taylor, telling PartyWorldwide: “Over the last few weeks we’ve see this big superhero theme which has culminated in incredible sales across ranges such as Warner Bros’ Wonder Woman and Super Girl. Similarly a huge uptake in boys with Batman, Superman and more too. Kids seem to be well-engaged with it this year which is fantastic, and it’s been a lovely, if a little surprising boost for ourselves and our retail partners too. Similar to World Book Day, it’s just fantastic to keep seeng more reasons for consumers to dress-up.”
