UK retailer goes the extra mile for isolation birthday boy

Despite the current difficulties being faced by the retail trade throughout the UK, Manchester-based company Fancy Dress Mad recently went the extra mile for a young boy who was celebrating his fifth birthday while in self-isolation.

While the shop itself is currently closed, owner Laura Devine and daughter Elizabeth have been offering free FaceTime sessions for children who are self-isolating in order to cheer them up.

When they heard that Christian Kilduff’s birthday party had been cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic they were determined that Christian, who has cerebral palsy, shouldn’t miss out.

In a special, socially-distanced, home visit a life-sized Peter Rabbit visited Christian, waving through the living room window at the birthday boy before the pair enjoyed a dance together.

“I thought I would offer free FaceTime videos to children at home that are self-isolating to cheer them up,” said Laura.

“Christian’s mum got in touch and told me it was his birthday and his party had been cancelled. [The visit] made my day – he was so happy and they are a wonderful family.”
