Balloon costs make headlines as Uber’s US office cuts $200k bill

Balloon costs have been making headlines as Uber’s US office has cut its $200k balloon bill and will be replacing the traditional staff anniversary balloons with stickers.

According to an email from Uber chief financial officer Nelson Chai, which went out to employees earlier this month, balloons have been cut from the budget as part of the company’s effort to cut back on costs.

The giant helium balloons, which had previously been used to mark the work anniversary for each member of staff, cost the company over $200,000 a year (£165,000) and will be replaced with stickers instead.

“It’s not only a great way to find dollars we can invest back into the business, it’s also more environmentally friendly,”said Uber cfo Nelson Chai, according to the report in Crunchbase News.

The cuts to the balloon budget were reportedly part of a scheme called #FindTheMoney, hich saw Uber employees suggesting ideas on how to save the company money.
