Moon Creations reacts to eco demands

Face paint and glitter supplier Moon Creations, which is distributed in the UK by Smiffys, has responded to market demands with a wide range of both biodegradable and conventional PET-based glitters.

“We have seen an increase in demand for biodegradable glitter predominantly from the UK market over the past 12 months,” said director Lewis Ames. “As a result we’ve launched a new range of Mystic Bio glitter for the 2019 festival season – complimenting our existing ranges.”

Moon Creations is also launching a new peel-off glitter fix gel for the upcoming festival and summer season. Instead of washing glitter off in the sink it can be removed like a peel-off face mask – eliminating glitter unnecessarily entering the waste water system.

“We hope to further develop and eventually replace all of our ranges with bio alternatives,” continued Lewis, “although the technology just isn’t available yet to do so.”

This is because when bio glitters are used in make-up products like glitter body gels or nail polish, they naturally begin to biodegrade, shortening the shelf life dramatically. As such, they are currently only available in a loose glitter format.

“The colour palette is also limited,” Lewis revealed, “with no genuinely biodegradable holographic or iridescent glitters yet available on the market. I expect that products will begin to emerge over the next one or two years to allow us to move towards more biodegradable options for our ranges.”

He continued; “In the short term, we will continue to offer the widest possible bio range alongside our conventional glitter ranges and let the customer decide which is best for their consumers.”

Moon Creations is also committed to reducing its environmental impact through the reduction of unnecessary non-recyclable plastic packaging. Bulk packaging is now corrugated cardboard, with fully recyclable new PET clamshells.
