Carnival and St. Patrick’s Day are key for Angels Fancy Dress

With key Q1 events Carnival and St Patrick’s Day falling so close to one another in 2019, Emma Angel, director of Angels Fancy Dress, shared her thoughts on these potentially lucrative mini-seasons.

How important are these ‘sub-seasons’ to you, especially in the first part of the year?

“We always see an increase in sales around St Patrick’s Day. It’s a big night out and customers really get into the party spirit. Leprechaun costumes are always a good seller, as are accessories.”

Which are the most popular?

“Carnival is the most popular event for us around this time of year and sales have been increasing significantly year on year. The emphasis is on fun, colourful, over the top costumes. Our Rasta Imposta lines are perfect for Carnival and in particular, the light weight novelty range is easy to pack away and carry, making them ideal to take to events abroad. Lines that always do well include the Lightweight Parrot, Lightweight Killer Whale and Lightweight Penguin.”

How have your ranges have developed and grown compared to last year?

“This year, we’ve added some really eye catching costumes from Rasta Imposta. What could be more appropriate for Carnival than a Tequila Worm?! For those who prefer a healthier option, what about an avocado?”

What do you expect to be a success this year?

“Food and drink play a massive part of Carnival so why not dress up in one of Rasta Imposta’s incredibly realistic Get Real costumes? There’s the Pizza Slice, Hotdog and Beer Pint. These would make brilliant group costumes too.”

Any advice for retailers looking to capitalise on these mini-events?

“Customers may not have considered dressing up for these mini-events so make sure that the costumes that retailers want to push for these events are displayed prominently. Ensure that each event has a dedicated area with an attractive, well stocked display.”
