Killer clown craze trend resurges

A bat-wielding clown is alleged to have chased two terrified teenagers and sparked a police search last week, in a flashback to the ‘Killer Clown’ craze which swept much of the UK back in the weeks leading up to Halloween 2016.

The bizarre trend, which was widely reported across local, national and international media, came to the UK from the US two years ago and is generally believed to be inspired by the character Pennywise from author Stephen King’s novel ‘It’.

On Wednesday evening, a mum reported her son and his friend had been chased by a man wearing a half-mask, red wig, clown top, black trousers and red trainers.

This was the second clown sighting in the local area in recent weeks, leading to concerns of more copycat attacks.

Two years aog, the unsettling craze led to a spike in clown-related calls to police forces in the UK and eventually saw a number of party and fancy dress retailers removing all clown masks and costumes from sale in order to ensure their stock could not be linked to the activities.
