Neviti straws help in fight against plastics

Neviti’s paper straws have been highlighted as an alternative to single-use plastic straws on homeware retailer Lakeland’s consumer-facing website.

The blog post – called ‘The Eco-Friendly Swap Shop‘ – listed a number of easy swaps consumers can make to cut down dramatically on their use of non-recyclable plastics. It suggests steel, washable straws for personal use, but links directly to Neviti’s biodegradable paper straws for children’s parties and other hosting occasions.

The blog post forms part of Lakeland’s commmitment to support to charity WRAP’s (Waste & Resources Action Programme) The UK Plastics Pact.

The pact is a collaboration which brings together businesses to change the way plastic is designed, produced, used, re-used, disposed of and reprocessed. Lidl, Morrisons, M&S, Ocado, Aldi, Asda, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Waitrose have also signed up.

“We have been seeing many more enquiries from our customers for paper straws as the media continues to report on the damage plastic does to the environment,” says Neviti’s director Tracey Cooper. “As well as being a trendy addition to your drink, consumers now see paper straws as a more environmentally friendly choice and this is driving retailers to make the switch.”

She continued; “We already have a large range of designs and colours of paper straws and will be expanding our offering to keep up with demand. As a company we feel that we can do more and are currently rethinking our packaging and the recyclability of our products with a view to improving our consumer labelling and cutting down on unnecessary packaging. We are doing this in conjunction with several of our large customers and we are very pleased to be able to work with them as they work towards offering more environmentally friendly products.”
