A costume hire shop based in Richmond, New Zealand, is entering a new chapter as it moves into larger premises.
The Dress Up Box, which operated from a house on Richmond’s Queen St until recently, has now outgrown its premises.
Owner Kris Cavit said the new site would include ‘quirky and funky’ gifts for sale, in addition to the hundreds of hire costumes.
The Dress Up Box was first created five years ago, following a costume sale in Hamilton where a previous costume shop owner was selling off old stock from a closing down fancy dress store. Kris began the business with 800 outfits and the collection has continued to grow since then.
“It’s fun,” says Kris, who enjoys her job as it’s more than just hiring out a costume. “It’s neat to be able come to work and you know every day’s going to be different.”
“The new space we’re moving into hasn’t had anything done to it for quite some time so it’ll need a big makeover,” said Kris. “It will be nice to put some love back into it.”
The Dress Up Box is one of only a few costume hire stores in the region and the new location will be opening in early May.
