Public Responds To Easley’s Closure Announcement

A fourth-generation family-owned costume shop in Phoenix (US), recently announced that it will be closing its doors for good later this year and was met with an outpouring of public support and well wishes.

Easley’s Fun Shop posted on Facebook about the impending closing. The message read simply:

“After 72 years of being a family business, we have decided to just be a family. This will be our last Halloween. Thank you for all your love and support over the years. We have loved being part of your lives.”

In an overwhelming display of public support, more than 1,400 reactions, 880 shares and 400 comments were left on the post.

The comments expressed sadness, praise and thanks and were directed toward both the owners and the staff.

The shop was initially founded by Bert Easley, a vaudeville magician who founded the store in 1947. It started as a small magic shop but soon grew to gag gifts, novelties, mild adult jokes and, eventually, costumes.

The store currently holds 5,000 costumes for rent and 10,000 for sale. It is unclear what will be happening to the unsold stock at this stage.
