“We achieved record sales”: talking to Sharon Poulter

It feels like a long time ago now, but with Christmas out of the way and trade show season upon us, it’s a good time to find out how 2018’s Halloween season was received, across the business. Smiffys’ Sharon Poulter shared her take on the party trade’s biggest season.

How was Halloween 2018 for Smiffys?

“We are pleased to report an increase in sales over Halloween compared to 2017, with record sales achieved in October. We saw strong demand for our new costume designs, notably the Vintage Clown family costumes, which were sold out early on in the season.”

What were the good points?

“We were very busy with last minute orders and top-ups for independent retailers, and our extended opening hours ensured retailers were able to respond to the late customer rush.”

Did anything do particularly well and did you spot any new trends?

“Day of the Dead continued to be a popular theme for both children and adults. As a result of the Halloween movie reboot, we also sold out of our Halloween H20 Michael Myers costumes. As in previous years we saw a strong growth in accessories sales along with the continuing trend for Halloween make up and Special FX .”
