Expert predicts top men’s Halloween costumes

Fashion experts at boohooMAN have revealed their predictions for the hottest costumes inspired by the biggest on-screen characters of 2024.

Deadpool and Wolverine

The biggest duo of the 2024 Box Office and the second highest-grossing release of the year, Deadpool & Wolverine, provides the perfect duo costume for best friends. While it appears Deadpool will take the lead this year, Wolverine will be close in popularity.

According to Google Trends, ‘Deadpool costume’ searches have risen by 1,229%, but ‘Wolverine costume’ searches have spiked by 1,090%—both skyrocketing this October to hit five-year highs.

Beetlejuice

Thanks to Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, released just in time for spooky season, the sequel to the 1988 cult classic has sparked a resurgence in popularity —as searches for ‘Beetlejuice costumes’ have increased 1,718% this Halloween. This is higher than ever before for the Halloween staple.

The Joker, The Penguin and Batman

One of the most anticipated releases of 2024, Joker: Folie à Deux, makes for one of the most recognisable costumes – with his green-painted hair, unique clown makeup and red suit, it’s an easy look to achieve.

It will no doubt be a popular choice this Halloween. The sequel has ignited a massive wave of interest in the iconic DC villain’s costume, with searches skyrocketing by a whopping 700% this month compared to the rest of the year.

However, another of Gotham’s villains is taking Google searches by storm—The Penguin. Colin Farrell’s adaptation, recently released as a series, has propelled searches for ‘The Penguin costume’ this October by 1,371%, and marking its highest interest in five years.

And if you’re looking to team up as a trio, Batman would be the perfect addition—and a popular one this year, too, with searches soaring 326% since the beginning of 2024.

Gladiator

For fans hoping to be ahead of the curve and looking for an easy-to-pull-together costume this year, taking inspiration from the upcoming Gladiator II will ensure thye stand out from the crowd. It appears fans of the 2000 film are already seeking inspiration, with searches for ‘Gladiator costume’ spiking 255% this month since January.

The Boys

Who doesn’t love a superhero with an edge? Thanks to the satirical superhero series, The Boys, coming back for its fourth and penultimate season in 2024, searches for the show have spiked 361%—the highest since the show premiered in 2019.

We will see renditions at Halloween parties everywhere as searches for ‘The Boys costume’ for inspiration have surged since last Halloween, peaking 228% this October, just in time for the festivities.

Dune

With the much-anticipated release of Dune: Part Two in 2024, costumes inspired by the epic sci-fi saga will no doubt be a popular choice this Halloween. Searches for ‘Dune costumes’ peaked when the feature was released in cinemas at the end of February—and they appear to be on the rise again ahead of Halloween, according to Google Trends data.

Gru from Despicable Me

For a less serious, more fun-loving look this Halloween, don a grey jacket and a grey-and-black-striped scarf with a long-pointy fake nose, and you’re sure to earn laughs all around if you show up to Halloween as Gru from Despicable Me. The fourth instalment of the animated film series released this year has sent searches for ‘Gru costume’ soaring 485% this October, compared to the year average.

We may see group costumes inspired by the franchise, too, with searches for ‘Despicable Me costumes’ also spiking 410% right now compared to the rest of 2024.

Venom

Ahead of its release just in time for Halloween this October, Venom: The Last Dance will likely see a last-minute surge in fans taking inspiration from the film at Halloween parties. Searches for ‘Venom costume’ have already begun to soar this October by 367% compared to the 2024 average so far.
