Parties And Parades: Celebrating Chinese New Year

Today (Friday 16 February) marks the beginning of a fortnight of celebrations for Chinese New Year, one of the world’s most colourful events which triggers a number of parties and celebrations all across the globe.

The date of  Chinese New Year varies each year and happens to fall on a Friday in 2018, giving the celebrations – which can last up to two weeks – a welcome kick-start.

The festival offers a welcome opportunity for families to come together and wish each other peace and prosperity. The global celebrations typically feature an explosion of light and sound, with parades and parties featuring plenty of bell ringing, firecrackers and traditional lion dances as the revellers welcome in 2018 – otherwise known as the Year of the Dog.

Traditionally a relatively low-key event for party retailers, a number of core suppliers including Amscan and Widmann have introduced fresh, modern takes on a traditional theme. And with celebrations taking place until the end of the month, there’s still plenty of time to get involved…
