Dance and Party Crazy Seeks New Owner

After almost 30 years in business, David Cobden – the owner of Dance and Party Crazy in Bury St Edmunds – is on the lookout for someone to take over his popular retail outlet.

At 75 years old, David believes the time has come to retire but is reluctant to close the profitable business down and has so far been unable to find a buyer.

The shop began by focusing on dance costumes and shoes – mainly catering for the six dance schools in the UK town, before expanding into fancy dress and costume over the years. “When I first opened my two daughters danced and my wife had to travel to Cambridge, Norwich or Chelmsford for their outfits,” said David, who believes Dance and Party Crazy is a perfect opportunity for someone looking to run their own business.

David’s proudest moment was when he won best service award at the 2013 Bury Free Press Business awards. “I’ve been here all these years and seen people come and go, some with excellent ideas and with all the expansion around Bury with new families moving in there’s a place for this sort of business.”

“It will break my heart to close it,” he added. “With the right person on board there is so much room to expand, especially with people who are savvy on social media.”
