The UK’s Birmingham Repertory Theatre will be opening its doors to members of the public for a special one-off costume sale on Saturday 7 April.
The costumes that will be up for grabs include a wide range of hand-made, theatre-quality outfits and accessories, from contemporary creations made for the Wizard of Oz right through to beautifully detailed 17th Century-style gowns and a range of courtiers costumes.
Hats, shoes, accessories and some unusual props will also available to buy, while the most special items will be auctioned off to the highest bidder.
“Our wardrobe department and prop makers are extremely talented – the wonderful costumes and vast number of items they make are a vital part of our productions,” said Tomas Wright, head of production.
He continued; “Many items we keep in store for future use, however, there’s only so much we can keep and by having a big sale it gives us a great opportunity to have a spring clear out as well as raise money to invest in the theatre’s future.”
“Our costume and props sale will definitely appeal to amateur dramatic societies, costume hire companies, schools and collectors of theatrical paraphernalia,” added Rachel Cranny, head of fundraising. “I’d urge anyone who’s interested in theatre or those who would just like a fabulous fancy dress costume to come along and have a rummage!”
The REP’s Grand Sale takes place on Saturday April 7 between 11am -5pm at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre, Centenary Square, Birmingham.
